Author Spotlight: Virginia Vaughan

Hi friends! Today, our author spotlight is on Virginia Vaughan! Everyone, say hello to Virginia! Without further ado, let's get to know Virginia her book Texas Holiday Hideout.

Author Bio:
Virginia Vaughan is a multi-published author of inspirational romantic suspense. Blessed to come from a large, southern family, her fondest memories include listening to stories recounted by family and friends around the large dinner table. She was a lover of books even from a young age, devouring gothic romance novels and stories of romance, danger, and love. She soon started writing them herself. A former investigator for the State of Mississippi, Virginia utilizes her criminal justice background with her love of writing to transform words into powerful stories of romance and danger. Her thirteenth novel with Love Inspired Suspense, TEXAS HOLIDAY HIDEOUT, is now available.

Here's Virginia!

People always ask me where I get my ideas for my stories. The answer is I do a lot of reading, listening to True Crime podcasts, watching TV shows and playing the what-if game with true life events chronicled in the news. But, often, that’s just not enough and I find myself stuck on some plot point or missing piece of evidence. That’s when I turn to family!

I can often be found wandering through the house mumbling about a plot point that just won’t work or trying to figure out how best to kill a character or where to dump a body. During these times, I’ve been known to draw my family into my nefarious plotting and, strangely enough, they’re always eager to help.

From the 10 y/o who wants every villain to be a giant robot terrorizing the city – maybe I’ll write that one day.

The 12 y/o who is way too into the blood and gore stuff—Uhm, no, I’ll never write that.

My grown son who draws on his vast TV watching experience. He seriously saved my plot once with something he saw on Burn Notice. 😊

To my mother who is oddly adept at seeking out places to dump a body – wonder if she ever thought she’d be having that conversation with her daughter! LOL

I rely on the people in my life to help draft these stories and they’re always willing to do so. Just the other day, I was stuck on a particular problem in my manuscript so I was discussing the story with my son as we carried out the garbage. I made certain to explain to him how I wanted to abduct and kill this woman but I needed a good place to hide her body. My son came up with some good ideas that ultimately worked. However, based on the horrified look and brisk steps of our neighbor as he walked his dog, he obviously overheard our conversation and I can only assume we are now on some community watch list.

So the next time you’re in a café or restaurant and you overhear the people at the next table plotting something unthinkable, before you call the cops, consider that they’re probably just suspense writers doing their thing.

Or, better yet, maybe slowly get up and leave before you wind up in their next novel. 😊

Check out my latest release from Love Inspired Suspense--plotted as always with help from the family!

Author Spotlight: Meghann Whistler

Hi friends! Today, our author spotlight is on Meghann Whistler. Everyone, say hello to Meghann! Without further ado, let's get to know Meghann and her book Falling for the Innkeeper.

Author Bio:

A hopeless romantic who met her husband on a blind date, Meghann recently left her marketing career to pursue her lifelong passion of writing sweet, hopeful stories that demonstrate the power of love and grace.

Before settling down with her rocket scientist husband and raising three rambunctious boys, she earned a B.A. in English from Amherst College and an M.F.A. in creative writing from Emerson College. She loves to hear from her readers, who can reach her at https://www.meghannwhistler.com/.

Falling for the Innkeeper Back Cover Blurb

A battle for a charming Cape Cod inn… But what happens when romance checks in?

Single mom Laura Lessoway won’t accept her mother’s plan of selling her late grandmother’s inn without a fight. But when big-city attorney Jonathan Masters arrives to arrange an offer from a client, she’s drawn to him. And working together as he helps with repairs only brings them closer. With his career and her home on the line, can they ever find common ground?

Interesting Tidbit

My maternal grandparents owned a Cape Cod inn that’s a lot like the one in the book! I grew up spending my summers there, and I have many fond memories of playing hide-and-seek in the sand dunes with my siblings and cousins, collecting sea glass as I strolled along the shore, and walking out on the nearby jetty with my family.

The real-life inn never had a rat problem like the one in Falling for the Innkeeper, but a few months before I sold the book to my publisher, we had a rat loose in our house! This was a super-smart rat, too, because it eluded all of my husband’s carefully placed traps for weeks, and he had to resort to laying down a line of glue traps to finally catch the pesky rodent!

Suffice it to say that when I was thinking about something that would impress my heroine, Laura, a man who was willing and able to help her rid the inn of rats was the first thing that came to mind!

The Widower’s Second Chance By: Jessica Keller

This is book one in the Goose Harbor, Michigan, series. From the time Caleb Beck meets Paige Windom, he is fascinated with her. First of all, because she is burning her wedding dress, in the basement of the West Oaks Inn Bed-and-Breakfast, and then because she is unlike any woman he has ever met before. Can he let go of his fear to embrace a future with Paige; or will he let past events control him?

Paige is done with men controlling what she does and how she does it. She moves to Goose Harbor, Michigan, to start over. With a new teaching job, and volunteering at Sarah’s Home with the inner-city mentoring program, Paige has all she needs.

Caleb teaches science at the school where Paige now works. His wife Sarah died in an attack outside the home she founded for inner-city kids. When Paige shows up wanting to volunteer there, Caleb tells her she can’t. Why won’t she listen to reason? He knows it’s dangerous.

Caleb is broken by his past. He can’t forgive himself for the things that happened to people around him. He feels he should have protected them. Can Paige help him see he was not to blame? Can Caleb see that his trust needs to be in God? Will Paige learn the difference between control and caring? When you are broken and feel like all is lost, God is there always offering another chance. Even when you make mistakes, God is right there full of love with arms open wide.

The secondary characters were well thought out and brought additional life to the story. I would love to read more about the inner city kids and Amy, see how they are doing. Jessica Keller does a great job of bringing these characters and this town to life. Can’t wait to read more!

God is all about second chances. Caleb thought after his wife died, he would have to run around protecting everyone. Will he see that by doing that he is keeping them from growing? Paige is afraid of letting others control her because of her past experiences. Can she learn to trust Caleb so they can have a future together? Pick up this great book today about God’s love and how ever many second chances are needed to get it right, and enjoy Caleb and Paige’s story!

The Lawman’s Second Chance By: Ruth Logan Herne

I loved this book!! Trust in the Lord, no matter what. Sounds simpler than it really is, but this is exactly what Lisa Fitzgerald must learn how to do. She has had breast cancer, her husband left her, and her mom just passed away. Her story will encourage everyone who reads this book! Alex Steele’s wife has died from cancer and he has moved with his three children. Can he trust enough to allow himself to fall in love with Lisa even though it might open his heart up to more pain? Could his kids handle going through that all over again? Ruth Logan Herne does a wonderful job combining caring, vulnerable characters facing a life-threatening situation. She will draw you into the story and the characters’ struggles with faith, trust, and hope. Psalm 27:14 speaks of the message of this story: Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord! Lisa and Alex can run from their feelings for each other, and let fear guide their steps, or they can have hope and trust in the Lord to lead and guide. Anyone who loves a great romance, or feels that life is too overwhelming, pick up this book today and be encouraged in the Lord!

A Bride For Dry Creek by Janet Tronstad

This is another great story in the Dry Creek series. It features Flint and Francis. We do not know what the future holds for us, but we can rest in the knowledge that God holds the future. Francis and Flint had been married 20 years before, but her father told her that Flint left, and her father told Flint that Francis didn’t want to be married to him and even got him arrested. They spend the next several years wondering what happened and not finding love. She comes back to Dry Creek to free herself from her past. Little does she know, she will face her past head-on. She hopes she can forget Flint and move on to marry Sam. Flint is working with the FBI to capture the cattle rustling ring in Dry Creek. Flint has to kidnap Francis to protect her from the cattle rustlers. She is not happy, especially when she figures out who kidnaps her. Will he capture her heart again? Will she trust her heart to him again? Follow Flint and Francis as they put the pieces together of what happened on that fateful day when they married. Flint drops Francis off at her house so he can go pack; he never comes back. The story that unfolds will capture you and you won’t be able to put the book down until you’ve read the last page!

An Angel for Dry Creek by Janet Tronstad

This is the first book in the Dry Creek series by Janet Tronstad. I have read these books before, but I am reading them again and posting reviews in anticipation of her two new books coming out this year. Lilac Wedding in Dry Creek came out in March 2012 and Wildflower Bride in Dry Creek comes out in July of this year. An Angel for Dry Creek is a great book to start off the series. You really get to know the characters that will be reappearing in future novels. Janet Tronstad has a way of describing characters and letting you in their heads so you feel a connection with them that makes you want to finish the book to see what happens. The setting in Dry Creek is perfect. I want to move there! The author is from Montana and even though Dry Creek is a fictitious place, its description is drawn from other places in Montana to give it a real place feel. Glory Beckett is a girl on the run. When she is too tired to continue on and needs gas and food, she ends up in Dry Creek. She goes to the parsonage to get help when she stumbles onto Matthew Curtis who has stumbled down the steps and hurt himself. His twin boys were getting ready to go out and get help when she came to the door. They immediately think she is an angel. The whole town takes her under their wings. Matthew needs someone to help care for his boys while he’s recuperating, and since he can’t go up and down stairs, it is decided Glory will stay in his room. Matthew’s wife had died from cancer and he feels it was his fault for not keeping her safe. He blames God for taking her away and not answering his prayer. He used to be a minister but stopped when she died. He teaches his boys to pray and talk to God, but he doesn’t participate anymore. Can Glory trust Matthew and the people in the town? Will they turn her in once they find out what is going on? How will Glory help Matthew to see that God didn’t desert him when his wife died? Find out how Glory lives up to her name, Angel, and even becomes one in the Christmas pageant. We all have times when we wonder if God is really there looking out for us, or if it is just us alone. Follow Matthew’s journey as he realizes God is there and does care and loves each of us so much. I highly recommend this book An Angel for Dry Creek. It brings out everyday problems that we face and can relate to mingled in with humor and faith building experiences. You will not want to miss this book by Janet Tronstad.
