Summer of Deception by Elva Cobb Martin

Rachel needs answers about what happened to her brother. She takes a job as a nanny for Luke’s daughter, where her brother was last seen, but nothing works out as it should.

Luke doesn’t believe her reason for being there. Is her stay at the lovely plantation a ploy to marry into the wealthy family? Why is she really here?

Rachel is determined to stay and do what she was hired to do, whether or not Luke believes her. And in the meantime, she’ll continue to search for answers. Is Luke part of the drug smuggling ring? Is this the ring that took her brother’s life?

I loved this story by Elva Cobb Martin. Luke’s daughter is a joy to get to know. But can Rachel find the answers she’s looking for and not lose her heart to Luke? Summer of Deception is an action filled inspirational romance. I loved Luke as the hero. I couldn’t stop reading. His issues with God and why he stopped praying felt very real. His walk back to God pulled me into the story. I pulled for Rachel and Luke all through the story, but things would keep happening that kept them apart. Loved this story and can’t wait to read more by this author.

I received a free copy in the hope that I would mention/review it on my blog. I was not required to give a positive review, only my honest opinion - which I've done. Spring Raine by Delia Latham

Ever since I saw this book was coming, I wanted to read it. I was not disappointed. Delia Latham has a way with words that draws you into the story and the characters’ lives. Paradise Pines Lodge is a great place to be. I didn’t want to leave.

Raine is vacationing with Miss Angie in her upstairs apartment and has a run-in with Declan, a neighbor. Miss Angie senses things. How can she know what she knows? Declan is asked to watch over Raine without her knowing, but after showing off his town to her, can he keep his heart to himself? Can he convince her to stay after her vacation is up? Or will she return to her parents and the job that’s waiting for her?

Raine is shown in many ways that God is thinking about her. Do you see those signs in your own life? It’s the little things. A touch of a butterfly. A group of trees. The way sunlight glints through the clouds. Spring Raine fills you with hope and God’s love.

But what happens when she finds her calling in Paradise Pines? Will she stay and disappoint her parents? Or leave her calling behind? How can we know what God wants us to do? Spring Raine-God will lead the way.

Architecture of Survival: Holocaust Diaries by Israel Stein

I am fascinated by accounts of the Holocaust and was looking forward to reading Architecture of Survival. Israel Stein gives his first person account of what he went through during the Holocaust as a child in one section. His parents Paula Stein and Meir Stein wrote in diaries during their time and those have been translated and provided in other sections. The pictures and other information included in the memoir make this account a definite must read of the Holocaust.

I like the cover depicting Israel’s family and the countryside. The formatting is perfect. There were no issues in reading this on a Kindle. Grammar, editing issues: the story was adequately edited. There were no glaring typos or unclear sentences. Translation of the language sometimes threw off the flow of words, but not to the point where you couldn’t understand it. His mother spoke Polish and his dad German.

From the memoir, while in Russia, family and neighbors would go missing and never come back. Israel and his family were then taken away to the Lukishki prison. They escaped being sent further on because his mother was an architect. The rest of the memoir is Israel, his mother’s, and then his father’s recollections of that time period.

The author brings to life the ongoing struggles to stay alive and not be caught. I felt like I was there, hiding from the police, afraid for my life. Escaping to Bialystok, Israel and his family experienced a paradise of sorts, until he was intentionally separated from his family and hiding in a small space of a Polish family. Architecture of Survival is Israel Stein’s recollection of the holocaust and I recommend this memoir to all who are interested in this time period of history. At times graphic, at times very sad, at times incomprehensible, this memoir will touch your heart.

A Family to Call Ours by Merrillee Whren

I loved this story by Merrillee Whren. This is Book 3 of the Front Porch Promises series, but you can read this one without having read the others. Tara Madsen is a widow with a young daughter Hailey who is fighting cancer. Caleb Fitzpatrick comes back to town to find his parents have hired Tara as their receptionist. Is she really who she seems, or does she have ulterior motives? Have his parents trusted the wrong person again? Caleb is still reeling from the actions of his ex, the last person his parents tried to help. Is Tara just like her or can she be trusted?

Tara had fallen in love at a young age, but since he’d died and left her with debt, she couldn’t trust another man to fall in love with. Plus she has a daughter to watch out for now, better than her parents had cared for her. They’d left her at her grandparents and she hadn’t seen them since. She wouldn’t do the same to her daughter.

Can Caleb and Tara learn to lean on God and not worry? In the midst of someone accusing Tara of not being a good mother and Tara’s mother coming back to see her, can Tara trust Caleb? Can Caleb trust Tara not to leave with his heart? What must he do to convince her of his love for her and her daughter?

I recommend this story to anyone who loves a great inspirational romance. I enjoyed the characters and their stories. It’s hard to trust God when things aren’t going well. But as Tara and Caleb find out, trusting Him in the hard times brings peace in the midst of trouble.

Gillian's Heart by B.J. Bassett

I loved this sweet story by B.J. Bassett. Gillian and Dusty have nothing in common. She's restoring her grandmother's house. Dusty is a surfer. She's a Christian. He's not. But something draws them together as he's helping her with renovations. When Gillian needs someone, Dusty's there for her. But will secrets from the past pull them apart?

Gillian's Heart is a wonderful inspirational romance about letting go of the past, unconditional love, and finding forgiveness. Sometimes you've just got to let things go so you can move forward in your life.
